Building a single storey Clarendon home
On Monday 17th Feb 2015, the brickie larbourer arrived and opened the pallets. He then distributed the bricks around the house putting bricks a few metres apart.
Bricks ready to be laid !
On Tuesday, the brickie arrived on site and laid one course around the perimeter. This is the damp course….I think that what they called it.
Once the first course was laid, the Pest Control guy turned up on Wednesday and installed the pest barrier ! It is GranitGard. This is what Clarendon use. Here is some information about it: http://granitgard.com.au/system-description/. Basically, its small granules which fill the space behind the the first course. If you see the pics above, you can see some space between the slab and bricks (where some of the mortar has fallen.) This space is filled with small granules. Termites cannot crawl through the granules. See pics below for clarity.
Finally, once the pest control guy was finished, the brickies started laying the bricks. There were only 2 people, a brickie and one labourer ! I though there would be a couple of brickies. But even then they covered some ground. All this while it was sprinkling and raining intermittently.
By Friday 20th Feb 2015, the brickies had done all of one side and the back. Mind you, there wasn’t much on the back as there is a big sliding door, and then the alfresco, which is again glass sliding doors !
MORE BRICKS !
